Tunisian Tuesday CAL

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 20 – Block 14

wp-1478539539754.png

All TSS again but with lots of colour changes. You use 3 colours and change each time you finish putting on and each time you finish taking off. It sounds confusing but once you get into it, then it makes sense. Faye said she had to keep reminding herself to actually do the colour changes, she said she was getting too over confident.

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 20a – Block 35

wp-1478539801367.png

Faye found this one easy however, confidence got the better of her and she had to frog several times because she wasn’t reading the full pattern and was forgetting to create the shells.

Please post your blocks in the Rainbow Valley Crochet Facebook group when you have made it and let us know if you are happy for us to share your photos. If you would like to join in with the #TunisianTuesdayCAL there is more information at http://www.enfys.me.uk/english/tutorial/tunisian-cal.htm

Tunisian Tuesday CAL

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 19 – Block 8

wp-1478539065618.png

The loops are a lot easier to work on this one than the block from week 4. When working the bobbles, insert your hook as you would for the TKS.

Your block will not look like the one in the pattern. There is an extra row of loops in the picture than are in the instructions.

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 19a – Block 24

wp-1478539247385.png

All TSS but you do need to change colours. You can carry the unused yarn along the back but I find it looks much neater if you just use a separate small ball and sew the ends in afterwards.

If, like me, you used extra rows in your plain TSS block, add some in as you go along so that the design sits in the middle.

Kaela’s Adventure

Learning how to use movie maker and YouTube

20161117_180847

My daughter, Leah and I had a bonding evening last night. Both of us were having a pretty rough hyper-mobility day and we wanted to cheer ourselves up.

I had mentioned wanting to learn how to use movie maker to create videos that we can share on YouTube that are relevant to everything Unravel & Unwind C.I.C stands for. Most of all, just having a laugh and enjoying ourselves.

The Characters

A while ago, Leah had been folding paper into animal shapes and had left them knocking around the studio. This was perfect for us, as Leah immediately jumped into story writing mode and had me hunting through our vast card stock to find pieces to make a background.

We did have a good giggle, and I must have used at least 2 phone batteries. Once the photographs had been taken we then had the task of cropping out our fingers and uploading them to the laptop. That was when we realised that I had no movie/video software, so I had to hunt out Windows Movie Maker.

Cheeky unexpected snap

Movie maker was a lot cheaper than I expected too. It came in at around £25.00 which I think is a fair investment as we plan to make a lot of our own video’s, especially tutorials and live streams.

So after a few hours of writing, cutting, arranging, photographing, cropping, giggling (and oh I don’t know what else), we finally had a very short video that we were both happy with. Oh and we were able to find some backing tracks too, courtesy of Purple Planet Music.

Not too shabby for total novices.

Please enjoy and we welcome all feedback,

From Faye & Leah

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 17a – Block 9

wp-1478533578748.jpg

Although this block is one of the easier ones to make and there are no errors, I did find that it came out really tight. I ended up using a size larger hook.

If you do not have a larger Tunisian hook, don’t worry. As the blocks are so small, you can use a regular hook. Just take care that the stitches do not fall off the other end.

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 18 – Block 10

wp-1478533636076.png

A nice easy one this time, just TSS and chain. Faye’s notes also say “very easy, finished in 40 minutes”

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 18a – Block 7

wp-1478533672679.png

Helen has to confess, she did not like this block. She could not get into a rhythm and it took her ages to make. It did not help that you have to flip back and fore between pages. Read the instructions carefully.

Faye, however totally forgot to keep notes on this block other than she only did 15 rows.

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 17 – Block 28

wp-1477913085116.png

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 17 – Block 28.

More bobbles and chain loops.  These chain loops are much easier to make that the ones we made in week 4.  When working past the chain loops in the next row, double check that you have picked up the correct vertical bars, it is easy to either miss some or pick extra.

Handy Hint

wp-1472571576161.jpg
Finding the last stitch

We were asked “Hi, does anyone know what I keep doing wrong with the end stitch of the squares please?”

By going to the very edge and picking up the last two strands you should still have 23 stitches. Just follow the above image left to right/top row/bottom row and you should be good to go.

Tunisian Tuesday CAL

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 16 – Block 222016-10-07-21-12-31

Mostly TSS but with long stitches. When making the long stitches, insert your hook as for the knit stitch.

Faye discovered that she needed to change colour at the end of row 18, and repeat row 3 for row 19 before binding off.

#FollowonFriday  Week 16a – Block 5

2016-10-07-21-16-00

This time you are creating shells using a UK treble. Faye kept forgetting to do the chains on the reverse pass.

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 14 – Block 20

2016-10-07-21-00-07

Another mostly TSS block but with raised stitches. You need to remember that this is a US pattern so read “dtr” instead of “tr”.

Faye says “My notes tell me that I needed to do 3 extra rows and that I used double crochet for the bind off. I do remember that it didn’t quite make a square with the usual slip stitch bind off.”
Helen said “I actually did the amount of rows in the pattern for this one.”

#FollowonFriday  Week 14a – Block 26

2016-10-07-21-03-01

Mostly TSS again. One row plain TSS and the next working a tr (dc-lp in pattern) in to the row below. Both Faye & Helen have no notes for this one, however Faye did mention that when doing this one again she would make the last passes look similar to the beginning as she found the top few rows displeasing to her eye (OCD does still kick in at times).

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 15 – Block 12

wp-1476949566061.png

This one is all TSS but with colour changes. Helen used a separate ball for each colour rather than carrying along the back. It looks neater.

Faye found that she needed to keep her strands looser than normal but did say that following a graph was far easier than she expected.

#FollowonFriday  Week 15a – Block 17

wp-1476949747128.png

This uses bobbles and the dtr (says tr in pattern) used in block 20. When kaning the bobbles, the hook is inserted as for the knit stitch. It is a bit like making shells but there is a little extra to make them into a bobble.

Faye did say that if she were to do this block again then she would put her extra row of TSS after row 3 and before row 4, as adding the extra row at the end left a large blank space.
