19 July 2016 – Week 1 & Introduction
After the workshop on Saturday, Faye and Helen (Rainbow Valley Crochet) decided that they would like to improve their Tunisian crochet skills. They have found a gorgeous blanket with 35 different blocks and have decided to make one each week. Then they realised that this would be really good to do as a CAL (crochet-a-long). They are calling it “Tunisian Tuesday”.
The idea is to make one block each week. We are not making them in the correct order, just as our fancy takes us. Faye and I will make them in advance and share ours to tell you which block we have chosen. You can then share your finished block in the comments on Rainbow Valley Crochet. If you would like to join in, you would be welcome. You can buy the pattern from gourmetcrochet – Carolyn Christmas. If you are joining in, it would be nice to see your chosen colour scheme.
Don’t have a Tunisian hook? This weeks block is number 30. We have gone for a plain Tunisian Simple Stitch block so that those new to Tunisian can learn a basic stitch before we start on the patterned blocks. NOTES – Helen & Faye are both using Stylecraft Special DK yarns with 5 mm bamboo hooks & 5 mm crochet hooks. The blocks before borders are measuring approximately 5 x 5″ inches or 15 x 15 cm.
Allow yourself approximately 2 hours for making the block.
Helen says – This is my first block. It measured about 15 cm before the border was added. I did 20 rows instead of the 18 the pattern said.
Faye says – This is my block. The bit before the border measured 5 x 5 inches and I did 19 rows instead of the 18 stated. I’m using a 5 mm bamboo Tunisian hook and a 5 mm crochet hook for the border.
