Helen is choosing a new cover photo each week for the Secret Garden Facebook Group

First up was Ruth’s. Helen particularly enjoyed how the butterfly blocks were laid out with the butterfly mobile.

Tracey’s photo is this weeks cover image, showing her mini gardens in her own sunny garden. This has certainly been warming us Brit’s up.

What do we do with all our ends?

What to do with all these ends?
What to do with all these ends?

Here are just a few suggestions that have appeared on the group;

Helen from Swansea shared a link to maRRose – Colourful Crochet & Crafts for a yarn bowl that has been sculpted using all the ends that she had saved up from her crochet projects. I love this idea and I hope to do something like this with my ends. If you’ve done something similar why not share your photo’s with us.

Our Helen (Rainbow Valley) saves all her ends and gives them to a couple of her students. Why? Because they breed canaries and they use the ends for making nests. That’s such a sweet idea.

I have heard from one of my students in the past would leave her ends hanging from a bush in her garden for the sparrows to use when they are nesting. She would also supply them with the fur that her dogs & cats had shed.

Creative Changes

There are now more than 500 participants making the Secret Garden CAL and naturally not everyone is using the same yarn brands, so there are some beautiful colour and texture differences.

But the most creative change has been from Tracey who has chosen to do the crab stitch round of the big flower in one of the colours from the centre.

Tunisian Tuesday CAL

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 19 – Block 8

The loops are a lot easier to work on this one than the block from week 4. When working the bobbles, insert your hook as you would for the TKS.

Your block will not look like the one in the pattern. There is an extra row of loops in the picture than are in the instructions.

All TSS but you do need to change colours. You can carry the unused yarn along the back but I find it looks much neater if you just use a separate small ball and sew the ends in afterwards.

If, like me, you used extra rows in your plain TSS block, add some in as you go along so that the design sits in the middle.

Please post your blocks in the Rainbow Valley Crochet Facebook group when you have made it and let us know if you are happy for us to share your photos. If you would like to join in with the #TunisianTuesdayCAL there is more information at http://www.enfys.me.uk/english/tutorial/tunisian-cal.htm

Tunisian Tuesday CAL

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 17a – Block 9

Although this block is one of the easier ones to make and there are no errors, I did find that it came out really tight. I ended up using a size larger hook.

If you do not have a larger Tunisian hook, don’t worry. As the blocks are so small, you can use a regular hook. Just take care that the stitches do not fall off the other end.

A nice easy one this time, just TSS and chain. Faye’s notes also say “very easy, finished in 40 minutes”

Helen has to confess, she did not like this block. She could not get into a rhythm and it took her ages to make. It did not help that you have to flip back and fore between pages. Read the instructions carefully.

Faye, however totally forgot to keep notes on this block other than she only did 15 rows.
