Kaela’s Adventure

Learning how to use movie maker and YouTube

20161117_180847

My daughter, Leah and I had a bonding evening last night. Both of us were having a pretty rough hyper-mobility day and we wanted to cheer ourselves up.

I had mentioned wanting to learn how to use movie maker to create videos that we can share on YouTube that are relevant to everything Unravel & Unwind C.I.C stands for. Most of all, just having a laugh and enjoying ourselves.

The Characters

A while ago, Leah had been folding paper into animal shapes and had left them knocking around the studio. This was perfect for us, as Leah immediately jumped into story writing mode and had me hunting through our vast card stock to find pieces to make a background.

We did have a good giggle, and I must have used at least 2 phone batteries. Once the photographs had been taken we then had the task of cropping out our fingers and uploading them to the laptop. That was when we realised that I had no movie/video software, so I had to hunt out Windows Movie Maker.

Cheeky unexpected snap

Movie maker was a lot cheaper than I expected too. It came in at around £25.00 which I think is a fair investment as we plan to make a lot of our own video’s, especially tutorials and live streams.

So after a few hours of writing, cutting, arranging, photographing, cropping, giggling (and oh I don’t know what else), we finally had a very short video that we were both happy with. Oh and we were able to find some backing tracks too, courtesy of Purple Planet Music.

Not too shabby for total novices.

Please enjoy and we welcome all feedback,

From Faye & Leah

Tunisian Tuesday CAL

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 17a – Block 9

wp-1478533578748.jpg

Although this block is one of the easier ones to make and there are no errors, I did find that it came out really tight. I ended up using a size larger hook.

If you do not have a larger Tunisian hook, don’t worry. As the blocks are so small, you can use a regular hook. Just take care that the stitches do not fall off the other end.

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 18 – Block 10

A nice easy one this time, just TSS and chain. Faye’s notes also say “very easy, finished in 40 minutes”

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 18a – Block 7

Helen has to confess, she did not like this block. She could not get into a rhythm and it took her ages to make. It did not help that you have to flip back and fore between pages. Read the instructions carefully.

Faye, however totally forgot to keep notes on this block other than she only did 15 rows.

Please post your blocks in the Rainbow Valley Crochet Facebook group when you have made it and let us know if you are happy for us to share your photos. If you would like to join in with the #TunisianTuesdayCAL there is more information at http://www.enfys.me.uk/english/tutorial/tunisian-cal.htm

Don’t forget to read the rest of the post as there are hints/tips, photographs, group feedback and information about the NEW Rainbow Valley Crochet design that is being released in January 2017.

Tunisian Tuesday CAL

#TunisianTuesdayCAL Week 13 – Block 15

wp-1475846467396.png

Sorry Folks! It has been a really hectic week with all that has been going on and I completely forgot about #TunisianTuesdayCAL. So here are both blocks in one post.

Week 13 is Block 15.
This block is all the Tunisian version of trebles (called dc-lp) in the pattern. Don’t let the extra starting ch confuse you, you still need 23 loops on the hook but, because the stitches are taller, you need an extra turning ch.

#FollowonFriday  Week 13a – Block 4

wp-1475846635670.png

Week 13a is Block 4.
Again, this is made with the Tunisian version of trebles. It can get a little confusing because the instructions say to pull up a loop in the 4 ch between each shell and you have only made 3ch. You will see that there are 4 ch fronts showing between each shell so pull up a loop in each of those.

Please post your block in the comments when you have made it. If you would like to join in with the #TunisianTuesdayCAL there is more information at http://www.enfys.me.uk/english/tutorial/tunisian-cal.htm

Don’t forget to read the rest of the post as there are hints/tips, photographs, group feedback and more.

Group Feedback

Helen – “I love seeing all the different colours people are making this blanket in.  It would be great to get some finished ones together for a photo shoot.”

Faye says “Taking part in the CAL and being one of the organisers has been great. I have learnt a whole new way to crochet that doesn’t aggravate my health issues half as much as regular crochet. It has also helped me to understand the mechanics of crochet in general and I have found vast improvements in my own work.”

Grace says “I have really enjoyed doing it, and like you know it doesn’t hurt my hands as much.”

Jane Says – ‘I like being able to see the others’ squares and get advice when stitches look different to the pattern’

Lesley say’s “I love doing it, it is very relaxing even though I am still learning it. Holding the long hook at the end takes the strain off hands. Will certainly be looking for more patterns in Tunisian crochet Be interesting to find the origins.”

Handy Hint

wp-1472571576161.jpg
Finding the last stitch

We were asked “Hi, does anyone know what I keep doing wrong with the end stitch of the squares please?”

By going to the very edge and picking up the last two strands you should still have 23 stitches. Just follow the above image left to right/top row/bottom row and you should be good to go.

Week 9 – Block 25

wp-1473150835091.jpg

This weeks block is all Tunisian Simple Stitch with some colour changes. There is a slight problem in the instructions for this one so please read the instructions in the comments carefully.

wp-1473150922763.jpg
If you follow the instructions exactly you will end up with “clean” colour changes as in the example on the right.
If you want your block to look like the one in the pattern, you will need to put your stitches on the hook and take them off in the new colour. This makes the colours look like they have run into each other.

Helen comments – I did a total of 20 rows and changed colours after the forward pass, not at the end of the row as stated in the pattern text.

Faye comments – My block ended on 20 rows and as Helen explained, I was changing colour at the end of the row as per the written text and directions given under the special instructions.

Don’t forget to read the rest of the post as there are hints/tips, photographs, group feedback and more.
